We are seeking an experienced Freelance CPA Accountant with a strong background in the construction industry to join our team remotely. As a Freelance CPA Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, managing project budgets, and providing financial insights tailored to the unique needs of the construction sector.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting:
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for construction projects and general operations.
Oversee project accounting, ensuring that costs are allocated correctly to jobs and that budgets are adhered to.
Provide timely and accurate financial reporting to clients and senior management.
Tax Compliance & Preparation:
Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for construction projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax codes.
Advise on tax strategies and deductions related to the construction industry, such as equipment depreciation and construction-related credits.
Handle audits and respond to any IRS or state tax inquiries.
Project Cost Control:
Review project budgets and provide recommendations for cost-saving measures.
Monitor cash flow, review financial forecasts, and work with project managers to ensure financial health.
Analyze job costing reports and ensure proper recording of work-in-progress (WIP) accounting.
Contractor and Subcontractor Management:
Review subcontractor billing and manage payables related to construction projects.
Reconcile contractor payments and review contracts to ensure all financial aspects are appropriately accounted for.
Financial Consulting & Strategic Planning:
Advise clients on financial best practices and offer guidance on business growth, efficiency improvements, and investment opportunities.
Help implement accounting software tailored to the construction industry (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend).
Ad-Hoc Financial Projects:
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and analysis for new construction ventures.
Conduct financial due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, or business expansion.
Qualifications:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required.
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the construction industry.
Strong understanding of construction accounting practices (job costing, WIP, progress billing, retention, etc.).
In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws specific to construction.
Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, Procore, Buildertrend, or similar).
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts in simple terms.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated to work independently in a remote setting.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with project management software specific to the construction industry.
Knowledge of lien laws and bond requirements in the construction sector.
Strong analytical skills and a problem-solving mindset.
