At the nadir of my life,

Despair intent to swallow whole,
I watched another take to wife
The one I love with all my soul.
Tempted thus to raise my fist,
To curse the Author of my fate,
By some grace I here resist;
Instead I bow and contemplate.
At that Cross of wrath and tears
Where Christ all my sins once paid,
Felt He these same pains and fears
While His life He freely laid?
Though the way is hard and strait,
Though the billows ceaseless roll,
I shall bow and yield my fate
To the Captain of my soul.
