If you are a horse owner, farmer, or other rural or semi-rural property owner/lessee whose property is infested by the destructive rodents known in Maryland as "groundhogs," I might be able to reduce their numbers for you-- safely, humanely, and FREE.
I am looking for suitable properties on which to engage in legal hunting (i.e., precision sniping) to reduce destructive groundhog populations, especially in Frederick and Howard counties, and also in appropriate areas of Carroll, Montgomery, or Baltimore counties.
This is a volunteer service and it is free for the landowner or lease holder. I will NOT accept any form of payment.
I am certified by the Maryland State Police as a firearms safety instructor. I am zealous about safety. I will not hunt where it cannot be done in full safety and full compliance with all applicable state and local laws. Not every site is suitable, but my methods of precision sniping can be safely conducted in close vicinity with domestic animals (including horses), amongst farm buildings, etc. I use non-ricocheting plastic-tipped ammo designed specifically for varmints.
I engage in this volunteer activity as time and weather allow. I give highest priority to properties on which groundhog holes are causing hazards to horses, or are creating tip-over hazards to farm machinery, or are undermining or otherwise damaging buildings.
I can share good letters of reference from managers of various horse-rescue facilities, horse farms, cattle farms, and other types of properties with domestic animals. The landowner or lease-holder retains ultimate control over the timing and location of any hunting, and of course can modify or withdraw permission at any time.
I am happy to answer your questions about all aspects of my groundhog-reduction methods. I do NOT trap, poison, or engage in any form of groundhog control except legal hunting.
By the way, there is nothing this post contrary to Craigslist Terms and Conditions. I am merely SEEKING farm land or other non-urban land on which to engage in a certain legal type of hunting-- that is, lawful hunting for groundhogs. Offering a legal service such as this is permitted on Craigslist. If you have ethical objections to use of lethal measures against rodents, please take them up with the state legislature.
Please use the Craigslist system to send me an email that contains a valid phone number, and also tell me which county you live in. It is very helpful if you choose to include the complete address of the property where you have a groundhog problem, because that allows me to examine aerial photos on Google maps, and then to ask better questions when I call you. But if you have questions that you want answered before you provide an address, that's fine too.
(Note: I cannot snipe on any site during a period when a dog is running loose or barking nearby. Speaking of dogs, it should be noted that in July 2024, the Frederick County Health Department reported that a groundhog that bit a dog later tested positive for rabies, and other such cases have been reported to me by veterinarians.)
