The Medical Assistants in our office are REQUIRED to work BOTH Front Office (Check-In, Check-Out, Answering Phones) and Back Office (Direct Patient Care). The work week is split equally between these two positions.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The shared front and back office responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting patients with demographic forms, data entry, answering phone calls, taking messages, appointment scheduling and management, maintaining patient charts, filing of charts (lots of filing), copying records, maintaining office supplies and equipment,
The front office prepares charts for patient encounters, checks patients in, verifies patient demographics including insurance verification, enters billing charges and diagnoses, makes future appointments, pulls charts for incoming mail and faxes.
The back office interviews each patient, records their medical history, prepares the patient for their examination, performs physical tests, blood pressure, weight, pulse, respirations, EKG's, vaccinations, spirometry testing, vision and hearing tests, prepares samples for laboratory testing (Ex: urine, blood, throat cultures, pap test, cultures, etc.), assists practitioners with examinations, patient call backs for messages taken, calls in authorized prescriptions, contacts insurance company for pre-authorizations, completes insurance referrals, pulls charts for incoming laboratory test results, works with specialist offices to schedule patient appointments.
Qualifications and Skills:
No Exceptions: Must have completed and passed a recognized Medical Assistant course.
Excellent skills required in the following areas:
Communication, both written and verbal.
Patient focused friendly interaction. Must have the type of personality that smiles at people and is warm and welcoming.
Legible handwriting and proficient spelling.
Team player. Eager to help co-workers and multi-task.
Flexible with schedule to cover for other employees. Willingness to switch weekly schedule when necessary, come in early, and/or stay late when necessary.
Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize what needs to be done first. Very fast paced office, must be able to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
