I have organized an informal gypsy jazz centered jam group that meets approximately once a month. To be clear, "gypsy jazz" (or "Manouche jazz") is swing music played in the style of Django Reinhardt and is not to be confused with eastern European gypsy music.
We currently have an upright bass, three guitars, and a soprano sax. We have been meeting for only a few months now so we're all still new to each other.
We meet in my apartment in historic Frederick so there is no expense to come and jam with us.
We had a fiddle player until just recently. Due to personal matters she had to drop out. So, I'm on the search to replace her. Certainly, an interested clarinet player would do too.
While several of the players are solid intermediate players of their instruments, they are all new to gypsy jazz, so if you're not that familiar with the genre, don't hesitate to come and try it. You'll quickly learn what you'll need to know and you'll find that you'll fit in right away. This is a very encouraging group of people.
If you're interested, please contact me. I will email you a list of the tunes that we're currently working on along with a fakebook that has all of the tunes in it.
Please include your real email address in your contact email. You may also text me but then include your real cell phone number.
Thanks and looking forward to meeting you.
