I am posting this for my mom. If you contact me I will give you her email so you can discuss possible adoption with her. She lives on the Delaware side of MD. I am just helping expand her search area. Her dogs go with her anywhere dogs are allowed including to her place at the beach. She lives in an apartment but the dogs do have access to acres to run several times a week.
Her dachshund is about 13yrs and is still very active and loves to play. A companion that has similar energy would be best. I have taken my dogs over to visit and they are bumps on a log and he sits in front of them and cries when he can't get them to play. We had gotten him as a puppy and over the years he has always lived with another dog. As the other dogs got older and passed away she adopted another senior dachshund several years ago and he to has passed so hes all alone. He panics when alone and will bark all night. My mom works an occasional overnight and now the apartment has complained. We have tried everything on the market to calm him but he cannot be left alone. I left one of my dogs with him for a day and he settled and was quite but when I left with the other dog he was alone again he panicked.
I posted before and a few people sent links to rescues however most were bonded pairs and that wouldn't work. Another few just stopped responding. We had one lined up to come home this past Wednesday and it came time they said they adopted him to someone else a few hours earlier. So back to searching.
The ideal match would be:
- 6-13yrs old
- small dog (20 or less pounds)
- another dachshund or similar breed or mix (beagle, chiweenie, etc)
- other dog friendly and playful
-quiet enough to live in an apartment (no excessive barking)
- adoption fee $200 or less
- not a bonded pair or major health issue (joint issues and typical senior dog issues are no big deal but no Cushing's or heart problem dogs)
Please reach out to me if you or any rescue you know have an ideal companion and I will forward your email to my mom. It breaks our heart to see him so stressed and lonely.
