1931 Ford Model A Deluxe Roadster - 3x T.R.O.G. Accepted Barn Find Racer. Authentic 1931 Ford Model A Deluxe Roadster, pulled from a barn in Maine after 50 years and built into an early traditional style hot rod (late-1940s). Car was stripped to the frame and meticulously built by Long’s Speed Shop to meet the "period-correct" standards of The Race of Gentlemen (T.R.O.G.).
Car accepted to the Wildwood, New Jersey event three times (2022, 2024, and 2025) and has proven its performance on the sand with winning runs on video. Accepted and attended PreWar Pile Up in Catoosa, Oklahoma 2022.
Performance Banger Setup:
Motor was refreshed and specifically built for high-revving beach competition.
Engine: Model A Banger, .080 over, upgraded valve springs paired with a Jim Brierley 'C' grind cam, lightened flywheel, high-compression head, original modified 'B' downdraft intake new 'barn find' Stromberg 81 carb. Mallory Dual-Point distributor. Rebuilt 1939 Transmission with Clings adapter.
12v conversion (upgraded generator fields).
Chassis & Body:
100% original 1931 Deluxe Roadster steel with authentic 50-year barn-find patina. Artistic patina on new or upgraded parts to match the look. 1935 wire wheels with bigs and little Firestone Deluxe bias ply tires.
Tardel stepped frame. Okie Joe 4" drop axle. Rebuilt original mechanical brakes (T.R.O.G. compliant). New cast iron brake drums to minimize brake fade.
Proven Performance:
Street legal - Tagged and Registered. "Ratty" is a blast to drive and can squeal the tires off the line. It’s a sorted, reliable racer I drive often. Video available of winning races on the Wildwood sand. O.B.O.
